Iceberg Slim Collection #1
A collection of novels by legendary urban novelist
“One of the greatest Black writers in American history” – rapper/actor Ice T
New York, NY – December 3, 2012 – Cash Money Content, the book publishing arm of the iconic record label Cash Money Records, will release Iceberg Slim Collection #1, the first volume of eBooks selections from legendary author, notorious pimp and hustler, Iceberg Slim. With the Iceberg Slim Collection #1, Cash Money Content will re-release the first 3 novels from the author. Available for download tomorrow, December 3rd, the Collection will include: the classic street tale Pimp: The Story of My Life (first released in 1969), as well as Slim’s second novel Trick Baby(1972), and his third novel, Long White Con (1977). Considered the originator of Urban Street Literature, Iceberg Slim’s stories explored for the first time ever the world of a black street hustler. Similar to rap lyrics, Slim’s words examine the gritty and violent subculture of the inner-city underworld. Hip-hop artists Ice T, Ice Cube and Slim Thug, all cite Iceberg Slim as a key influence in their music.
As real as you can get without jumping in, Iceberg Slim’s debut novel, Pimp, is the story of Slim’s life on the streets of Chicago , as he saw, felt, tasted, and smelled it. The novel illustrates in great detail a trip through hell by one man who lived to tell the tale. The story takes the reader on a wild ride through jail, addiction and death, still all too familiar in today’s urban communities. Slim’s follow up novel, Trick Baby, brings us the unforgettable tale of Johnny “White Folks” O’Brien, a blue-eyed, light-skinned hustler who doesn’t just play the con game, he transforms it. Continuing the saga, Long White Con tells the story of the most incredible con man ever to rise from the inner city streets and the schemes that would take him to the top.
Upon its original release, Pimp emerged as the definitive chronicle of street life, selling 2.5 million copies. In 1960, after several stints in prison, Slim made the decision to abandon the pimp life. With a wife and kids to feed, Slim folded his life into the pages of “Pimp” and was catapulted into the public eye as a new American hero. His novels were startlingly original, brutally honest portrayals of urban life. Slim died at age 73; one day before the Los Angeles riots. He wrote seven novels in total which went on to sell more than seven million copies.
Brothers Bryan “Baby” Williams and Ronald “Slim” Williams co-founders of Cash Money Records and the book imprint Cash Money Content (Atria/Simon & Schuster), have acquired the rights to Iceberg Slim’s entire catalogue of books and will re-release all seven novels.
